Paw Vulloy, Texas, with thirteen other dri
vers of Blackburn's Government train, for
Fort Sill, ludian Territory. About 5 o'clock
on the evening of tho 20th ult., while cross
ing a stream about thirty milts lOast of Fort
SUI, they were suddenly attacked by 150
Cheyennes and white desperadoes. A battle
followed, lasting n few minutes. Seven lenin
otors wcro killed, one was wounded und thc
rest wero captured. Thc Indians tomahawk
ed and scalped tho wounded, and took Mao
Mooro, John Jones, Thomas Hayward, Hen
ry'Brown and Hurry Jackson, ?nd another,
prisoners. They bound them and sent them
to tho woods under pun rd. What disposition
wns made of the train is not known. The
duy ofter tho battle one of thc party attempt
ed to escape and W8? killed and scalped.-?
They marched for two days in n Northerly
direction, and, on Friday, they hulled, tied
Jones and Hayward to a stake, cut out their
tongues, lopped off their cars nod otherwise
tortured them, in tho presence of other pris
.onors, and then bumed them to deuth.
Brown, MaoMooro and Jackson determined
to make on attempt to csenpo. A few nights
after, while tho indian guards were drunk
and the rain had loosened their cords, one
got free, stole u knife from a sleeping savage
?lld freed his companions. This was on the
6th inst. After inarching some days nearly
nuked they were fed by friendly band of
Pottowatlnmies. They reached Port Ri loy on
the 12th, nearly exhausted, and' MaoMooro,
proceeding to Leavenworth on foot, took rail
to St. Joseph, whore he has friends. He de
clares that one fourth of tho party were white
desperadoes, under Stanley, the Eastern
Texas outlaw. They ure dressed as savages
und participated in the cruelties with Indian
zest. "They hud also with thom as captives
Mrs. Bowman, of Guuduloupo Mountain,
Texas, and a beautiful white girl named
Emma Baily. It is Supposed thc baud be
longs to the tribe who made a demonstration
on Fort Sill during Shernnip's visit. Mao
