Fleming nyd Poioler repaired t?t once tot the

persons suspected of the infamous crime.
Among thc latter were Mese.'s. O. P...MuAr

MoArthur was turned over by Trial Justice

inflicted upon him this illegal und inhuman
punishment,
As thc persons whipped wo.ro Radicals, it
is at'Once concluded, and tho nowa circulated,
that the outrage hud been perpetrated by tho
Ku-Klux Klan of tho Reform party. Tho
report, doubtless, had its effect upon some
unthinking persons at tho election, hut there
?re circumstances connected with the affair
which point much more plainly to thc Radical

AN ATTEMPTED K10T IN N i:\VlJKUHY
Tho following article from tint Ni wherry
Herald shows that tho noitroes did their
beat to get up u riot ut Newberry Courthouse
on election day :
. Tho . excitement on .Wednesday last, of
which some erroneous reports have benn cir
ciliated, originated il) tho attempt of a crowd
of infuriated Radical negroes to maltreat a
colored Reformist, who, to his honor bc it
said, Btoftd up for tho cause with a Courage
which reflects thc greatest credit upon him
lie isa uoblo fellow, and deserves well at thc
hands of our fellow-citizous. For boars was
he badged and threatened, and when it seem
ed that he was about being over wi ie) med,
and pistols were drawn, a brave gentleman
stepped in, pistols in baud, and said, the first
ono that touches him will be Mown tbtouifh.
Tn a moment every negro* had blipped hi?
weapon out of sight, there was no desire to
fight on that grouud. fol.--'s two six
shooters was un irresistible argument in favor
of quoit. At that moment a weapon was dis
charged accidentally, and gomo confusion oc

an admirable sea la wa JJ un old time fire-eater

worst of our scalawags.were fire eaters before
tho war, and they were usually distinguished
by loud hatred of the Yankees, and bitter
animosity against freo negroes, whoso votes
they now so courteously solicit.
The gr?ttt . Missouri Radical, Drake, issn

forward a bill io tho Missouri Legislature io

was a furious advocate of the reopening of thu
African .shire trade, and was ono of thc era

and talked iiunsen.se in Knoxville in 1857.
Brown, of QCorgiu, went a bow-shot beyond
tho most hol-huuded Southern men up to the

of Kudicals. The course of Holden is known
to us all.
