Mr. Samuel Bailey of Maxoy, Goo., raised nearly fifty-sevcu bushels of whoat on nu acre of ground, aud this is tho way in which bc did it : In thc first placo, tho land was thin and exhausted ; had been in corn tho previous year, nod by thc usc of manure he succeeded in making seventeen bushels of that crop on tho acre. About thc lust week in October he broke it up with a two horso ? linley plow. Upon this ho spread broadcast six two horse wagon loads of well rotted stable manure, which was turned under by a cross plowing with the samo plow. Upon this bo sowed broadcast two hundred and fifty pounds of dissolved bone, which was harrowed in with a two horso revolving harrow. Ile then sowed one hun dred and twenty pounds oV wdicat on thc acre, j nnd covered it with u heavy brush, dragged over it by two mules. Tho clods wore beat down with a maul in tho absence of a roller. This was on thc 2d of November. In thc carly part of February thc wheat being then about six inches high ho sowed broadcast a top dressing of two hundred anti fifty pounds of ainmoniatcd phosphate. Bato in March, when thc wheat was in thc boot, ho applied two hundred and fifty pounds of ainmoniatcd dissolved bone nnd fifty pounds of salt ground together. This wns applied carly in thc morning on the dew, one-half tho mixture first and tho other half at thc cud of a week. Tho grain was cut olT with a common reap hook ns it ripened in places, commencing ou tho 4th of Juno. Tho production of thc acre was throe thousand and four hundred and fifteen pounds of good wheat.
