A portion of tho citizens of Oconco County met in tho Court llouso, nt Wiillinl?u, on Monday Inst, for tho purposo of uppointing Ut legales to tho Convention to be held in Co lumbia, on tho 16th instant, to nominate o candidato for Congress in tho Fourth Con gressional District. On motion, Col. Robert A. Thompson was Culled to tho chair, und ty. A. Lay requested to act as Socretary. On motion of Col Norton, it was resolved that tho chairman of this meeting, with liv?? other persons, to bo by bim appointed, shall rOproHcut us in tho proposed convention. Thc 1st day of May, 1862, tho en tire crop of wheat of tins region of country was almost entirely killed with the frost. My crop was not injured in the least. Another proof that is known by my neighborhood-that there never has been an entire failure of the peach crop or any other fruit, even my chestnut or-'| chard never fails. An old gentleman, spending a few days with me, that had tra vol led over the United States and Eu ropo, said ho had never bearii of a chestnut orchard Ijcloro. ile said tic beard one gentleman in Washington City say ho wa? going to Kentucky to plant a chestnut orchard, and he could get $'25.00 a bushel for them in Now York.
