An old gentleman, spending a few days with me. that bad travelled over tho United States and Europe, said bo bad never beard of u chestnut orchard before. Ho said be beard ono gentleman in Washington City say he was going to Kentucky tn' plant a chestnut orchard, and be could get $i!5.00 a bushel for them in Now York. Tbero is an agricultural paper published in Baltimore, from 1819 to the present day ; tborc is a Northern gentleman writing in that paper, says he has purchased land fifteen miles below Augusta, P -orgia pine land, at ten or fifteen au acre. Iiis object is fruit, and ho cari trot from twenty to twenty five dollars ii bushel for them in Now York. Mr. Hell's (of New York) crop of apples brought bim ten thousand dollars annually- Col. Sin gleton's (of South Carolina) crop of hinders brought him ten thousand dollars annually in Now York. A neighbor of mine, a Baptist Minister, says his wheat weighs seventy pound.-' to tim bushel. This grows out of the fact that the lion. Mr. Clemson, and Mi. Tourney, State Geologist, have informed yon what tho fer tilizers of thc State can and will accomplish if | used. 1 got Mr. Clemson to test thc rock off of ruy farm.
