Wo believe tho yield will be less tho present year thau for any y oar -since 1845. Taxes. Walhalla has presented a livoly appearance for tho past month, caused by C v. inpouring .of the citizens to pay their taxes. Our peo ple have strained every nervo to savo their property th:3 year, in hopes of a bettor timo in tho future. Tho largo crop of the past year and the high price of corn and cotton has . enabled them iu a great measure to pay up, ~but another year with suoh taxes would sell out half the county, as wo arcsatisGcd the present crop will barely support the county. Tho . entire tax of tho county amounted to some thing over thirty-three thousand dollars. Who is it that profosses to bo tho ncgroo's friend ( inducod him, first by tho tolo of "forty acres and a mulo," and thon threatened him with slavery if he did not adhere to tho Uuiou Lcaguo ? 'ho "Now Yotk Horald" says editorially : . ell might tho North buckle on nil its armor to koop tho South in thc Union, for, apart from politioal considerations and thc patriotio sentiment of maintaining tho gran ?eur and glory of tho rcpublio intact, th? part of our common country is tho sourci of our commorcinl wealth and moro val nublo to tho North than ever India was t< England. According to tho latest statis^' tho value of Southorn exports last yoar wa* over two hunbrcd and fourteen millions, whih that of tho North wa? ? little less thai two hundred millions. There is tint great difforcnoo, too, in tho nature of Uv exports of tho two sections, thut a lorgi portion of those of tho North is in tho preciou metals, whioh in a raoasuro impoverishes th? country, whilo thoso of tho South are tin produots of tito soil and bring us gold or it equivalent. Tho domostio trade of th South is still moro valuable to tho North, fo it supplies our manufacturer* with tho rai material tnoy nood and takes baok Northen manufuoturos in roturo.
