The Constabulary.

that Chiof Constable HuunAUD has resigned
ou account of the exhibitions of dissatisfac

Anderson, Abbeville and Oconee Counties.
Why is this county bulwark of Radicalism,
or cspoinago over quiet and respectable citi

notorious ahko for the similiarity of senti
ment aud opinions of its citizens, and tho
uuivcrsal peaco and tranquility that has pre

of substantial justice, and the inauguration of
innovation and oppression.
Burglary.
Jim Williams alias Rafe, colored, was ar

Assessments.
Wo learn that the Assessors for this County
have entered upon the discharge of their du

filling these offices arc aware of the respon

' extraneous influences, from every feeling of
bias and prejudice, and to comply with tho

Tl".c "National Intelligouccr/' in uotioing tbc

Mr. Botta was in past years onoof tho most
proiniiiont politicians of Virginia. Ilo was
born in Prince William Couuty, of that Stato,
September 10, 1802. His parents were lost
in tho conflagration of tho Riohmond Theatre,
iu 1811, when he was sent to boarding school,
und subsequently, at a very oarly ago, was
admitted as a uiombev of the Richmond bar
Soon afterwards ho retired to a farm in Ilon

to which ho was ro elected in 18- , aud also
to'tho Thirtieth Congross, after which ho re
sumcd tho practico of tho law at Richmond.
Although over declining nominations for
public office iu his State, ho managed to keep
his name prominently before the country as a
politician, and in 1858 was urgently pressed
for the nomination as the oandidatc of the
American or Know-Nothing patty for the.
Presidency. Baring tho war Mr. Botts ro

A Small nut* Significant Fact.?A

a business directory printed on tho blotters,

ho was in, of which ho was never before aware,
nor with whom had ho ever had airy personal

friends throughout the country. In all the
force of a vigorous und powerful constitution
at command, ho has suddenly fallen as it gi
ant of the forost before an unexpected storm.
A min of positive forces, there were no neg
atives in his character. With him right on
the one hand and wrong on the other were
distinctly marked. No influence oculdswervo
him from a principle or the discharge of a du
ty. The writer knew him veil and intimate
ly boforo the war, and although differing with
him in tho causo ho took in the contest, his
after conduct only convinced us the more firm
ly of his upright intent.
