Thc Commissioners of tho Poor for Dickens
District would respectfully report : That ibo
number of Paupers in thc Poor House is 20
17 whites and 8 colored ; and that there have
been three deaths-two whites and one col
ored - among them since thc Issi report. Thc
Board bas two Lunatics nt the Asylum, and
ono at home, who will probably soon have to
bc remanded to Columbia. Thc bitter was
brought homo by tho adv ice of the Supcriu
dent, who considered ber convalescent, and
thought that tho presence of her family and
friends, of whom she often spoke, might re
store ber to perfect sanity. It is Understood,
however, that after ll trial of several mouths.
she is at this lime in no better condition than
WhCfi she left thc institution.
The principal indebtedness of the Board is
for tho supp >rt of Pauper Lunatics nt the
Asylum, and amounts to something over 8700.
This, as well as all other debts, it was the de
sire knd intention of thu Board to haye dis
charged this year, but owing to the Mi,!!?*? Off
pf tho Stato tax for tho year 1800, ss well ns
Ito ?.heir ftd.b?ro to secure a fund duo them
frcm the Coinminsioners of Public Buildings,
it has been found impossible io do so. The
establishment has been nearly self-supporting
.-Mint is, n snilic.ie.ncy of corn, and nearly
pnough of meat, bavo boen produced on thc
^arm. The clothing of tho Paupers is also
flnulo on ?the pfmo/jes.
Thc buildings ?it Poor House arc gen
crtendly in good condition, and a neut and
comfortable double-cabin lia? been erected for
Colored Paupers.
