Thc Legislature, by its recent enactments,
did not suspend thc sittings of the Courts,
but only directed that a certain class of cases

Saleday.
There were a largo number of persons pres
eut on saleday. Tho Ordinary and Commis
sioner sold a considerable amount of real es
tate, at low prices. Tho Sheriff, notwith
standing his numerous advertisements, sold
a watch only. Ho would not have been able
to effect even this much, but that tho " said
defendant" surrendered the same voluntarily !
" Nobody hurt" yet.
Derelict Estates.
A number of these estates have been report
ed to thc Commissioner in Equity, requesting
him to take charge of them as required by
law. Hereafter, a list of property belonging
to such estates must bc forwarded with thc
request to proceed with the administration
thereon.

Attempt to Break Jail.
Tho " birds of passage," now in the jail of
tho District, attempted to escape on Monday
night last. With n small pocket knife, in
fifteen days, they had cutan opening sufficient
ly largo to escape Their bedding had been
torn into strips, and propnrcd for " sliding
down." Hut thc boat laid plans oft times
comes to naught, and this ono was destined to
share such a fate. In their haBte and anxiety
to get away, an alarm was raised, and tho
