The June Election in Kansas?Action of
tho Free State Men.
The "Free Stale" men in Kansns have is piled
an address to the people of the United
Slates, in which they avow their purpose
to taku no pari in the June election for del
<n^utes to the constitutional State convention, i
They allege, ns an excuso for their co?rse,
that "by the lists of qualified electors returned
by the sheriffs of the different court-,
ties, thousands of free State voters have
been ignored, while the nnmes of numerous^

Hsmnory or ttie election is to be controlled by^
pro-slavery' partisans, nnd it would be suici
<Ial for the free State parly to go into rn
election in the face of such odds, arid with
their past experience." This decision of
the free State men renders it certain that the
constitutional convention will he pro-slavery,
and that on assembling in September next,
?hey will form h constitution suitable to
their own views. This is conceded by thdl
free Statu mun. nml ill virto. .if il?" >
gcncv the address says : *
" Tfe nsk but that Congress may adopt*
the Topeka constitution, which has aire: 'y
"passed tho House, or that both it and tno

^ people of the Territory with an enabling act
* providing for a fair and honest vote of the
j>ona Jxde residents. We ask no more than
this?vve can ask for no less. None ?r?
more devoted to our Union and ourConsti-'
tution than the free State citizens of Kansas.
For the institutions of our country none ca^
have n deeper or more loyal attachment.?

and the integrity of our institutions can

Kansas may bo settled, once for all, by an
honest and legal vote of the actual residents

names signed to I he address,
are those of J. 13. McAfee, of Maryland ; J.
A. Wakefield, of South Carolina; II. Miles

Prof. W. Oakly, of Delaware, i\nd A. A.

f Letters from Kansas allege that the deputies
employed in taking the census meet
with much opposition from the free State
men, who refuse to givo their names, with
the view of keeping ilieni off the voting list,
and thus permit the election to go by default.
In Douglas county, 1,206 voters
have been registered: in Leavenworth county
1,700, unci in Johnston about 600, a largo
majority in eacl? being pro-slavery.
