A pound of bee pork, or poultry, can be mad much cheaper in September an October, than later in the seaso1 when a larger part of the ratior must go to keep up animal he. There is no sleight of hand in la: ing fat upon an animal's carcas It must come out of good hone food in the rations fed. The ter perature in the latter part of sua mer and early autumn, is m fav< of the best use of all the fattening a ticles of food, wiile there is enoug of green food to sharpen the a: petite, and keep up good .digestio We have found green corn stalk especially sweet corn, an excellei article in the stye, to be fed connection with corn on the co and corn meal, and other ration We have never seen pork ma more rapidly than with this kind feeding. It will be safe to feed f that the swine will eat up clea and no more.. Slack up the feed little when anything is left in t] trough. This will require a litt attention, but the pigs will grow i fast, that one can afford to ling by the stye a few minutes, once a day, to see the fat accumnlal Corn is high this season, and1 want to make the best use of The best poultrymen we know, b gin to give extra feed in Septembe when they mean to kill in Novez ber. The Thanksgiving mark is pretty sure to be a good on and brings ready cash. The smf potatoes boiled, and mixed wi1 Indian meal and hot water, mal an excellent feed for turkeys ax other poultry. This favors growt as well as fattening. The ratio of corn and other grain, ungroun may be reserved to the lastis weeks of life. Turkeys -shoul have their liberty all through ti extra feeding. -Some poultrvmi shut up their geese and ducks, bi we doubt the economy of th method. With a good run, the will have a greater variety of foo< and thrive better with an accessi a pasture with pond or -broo: while they are..receiving fell fee for market. All that the fattenix animals will eat up clean, is a goc rule for the last month of feeding -American Agricurlturist for Se tember. THE Sm&WBEEE BED.-Tbor who followed the instructior given in July last, and made strawberry-bed last month wil pot-layered plants, are sure of good crop next spring, unless son accident prevents. Good resuli may be expected from a bed mad the present month (September but the sooner the work is don the better. Those who have n< pot-layered the plants themselve can procure them of all ti principal nurserymen, who no propagate in this manner a suj ply of plants of the leading v rieties. Of course they coi * mpre-than the ordinary plants, bt: -.many are willing togo tothe extr expense, if they can only be sur of a crop of fruit a year soone than they could have it in an other manner. Those who rail fruit for market, do not need to b told that good strawberries ca; only be raised on good soil. I pri;vate gardens the plants ar rarely properly fertilized. We: decomposed manure is best, and liberal coating, three inches thick:i none too much, should be spres over the surface and s15aded in. I the absence of manure, a goo dressing of some of the artificial fei tilizers may be nsedinstead. Th plants may be set in rows two fee apart, and 18 inches distant in th rows. Some put them only a fo( apart in the rows, but in rich soi this does not give space enoug] In setting, the ball of earth turned out of the pot, and put i its place in the bed, without dii turbing its roots. At the time c planting, pinch off any runners tha may be forming upon the planti During the growing season, keel the bed clean by use of the ho4 and remove all runners as they ap pear. The plants thus treated wil form fine large stools by the tim< cool weather ch&cks their growth THE WANTED TO BOAR.
