Mr. Evans had just stooped down by the hearth when the ball struck the mantel piece, missing his head not more than two or three inches. The sash was down, and the ball made a large bole in one of the panes. Mr. Evans ran out immediately and saw two persons running at full speed up the railroad. The g? uestion of'm:akinig Coudty nominations was discussed, the only difference os o6;nion being as to the method, some favoring nominations by the Executive Committee, others preferring a Qqtiyen tion. It was fina1y 4ecided to calla pog.nty'Qonlventionl riet Saturday, the 28th instant, for the parpose of making nommations. From what we could gather, the ob, jective point of the republicans seems to be the Legislature; but we could not ascertain whether they propose to nom inste a full Legislative ticket or only it part. They may determine, aftei meeting, to nominate a full ticket foi A all the offices. There is no doubt though, that the chief interest centres on the Legislature. We understant there are several colored candidates foi 4this nomination. BENNETSVILI.E. S. C., July 23. 1881. Capt. James F. Johnston, Charlotte. N.C..
