Those interested in the intro
duction of Immigrants into South
Carolina, are informed that this
office will receive -all requisitions
for labor, made in form, and that
blanks will be forwarded to all ap
plying, upon th. -eturn of which,
the application will be made, and
as much despatch used in the ex
ecution of the order as possible.
It is suggested that thrse- desiring
ingle nien and women, should 1>nk
to getting them from the famIes
brought, and if the families are lo
cated in the saim neighborhood,
the individual so seiceted would
be better satisfied.
The chances of mutual satisfac
tion will be greate: if a few points
are, observed. The difficulty of
communication will partially be
met by a small phrase book of
German and English, which will
enable parties to understand one
another, the German being printed
in the English character in com
mon use, and rot in German text.
The houses should be cleaned
and whitewashed ; flour given in
stead of corn meal at first, (they
will soon learn to use it) which
these people do not use with vege
tables and coffee, until they get
accustomed to the country and
its Ways. As much consideration
as, is consistent with proper dis
cipline should be given, and with
allowances for occasional excep
tion we believe they will give sat
isfaction. Those introduced so far
have done well, with less complaint
from either side than could be ex
pected.
It is proposed that if our people
-who are not now prepared will get
ready for what they may require ;
build small houses, break up
a quarter of an acre of land
for turnips, forward their ap
plications for Ist of September; ;
t<rselect and forward from Castle
Garden Depot as many families as
may be needed in time for cotton
picking in the fall.

women and children will rate ac
cording , to their capacity, taking

ment of the immigrant at New York

portation, to be paid by the party

stallments. The advantage of get
ting them in families, which is
urgently recemmended, is that
they become a permanently ele
ment of our population, aind an in
ducement by them-success in the
acquisition of lands to others with

purchasing lands, is a leading ob
ject of this office; at present the
most of these come from Europe
with their destinations fixed, anii
this other class we expect to get,
will be the pioneers in the mnove
ment. Give all such an oppor
tunity and a hope of paying for a
piece of I-and, and it will make

It is the best for tea and coffee.
Double cream stands on its milk
twenty-four hours, and cream for
butter frequently stands for
forty-eight hours. Cream that is
to be whipped should not be but
ter cream, lest in whipping it
change to butter.
To wash red table linen use
.tepid water, with a little pow
dered borax (borax sets the color);
wash the linen separately and
quickly, using very little soap;
-rinse in tepidl water containing a
little boiled starch ; hang to dry in
the shade; iron when almost
