A New Street Needed. There ought to be a street from the Market to Caldwell Street in front of Mr. E. S. Coppock's residence. It would be a great convenience to many of the residents of that portion of Town known as Brooklyn. Steps were be gun a few years ago for opening such a street, but the matter fell through from some cause or other. Can't the thing be revived and put through? Orangeburg "Daisies." There was- a general lamentation amongst 'our boys' Wednesday after noon, on the departure from our town of two of Orangeburg's fascinating < young ladies, the Misses Jenney, who I have been on a short visit to friends I here. Either the young ladies will I have to return to us or there will, we I fear, be soon an exodus of sonic of our young men to Orangeburg, t "BLACK-15RAUGHT" makes chills and fever impossible. There was an error in our publication the census of 1870 for this .County. arose in this way: In the Compen am, published by authority of the U. Government, Newberry is put down us: Newberry, - - - 2.792 Nuwberry, - - - 1,891 The impression was that 2.792 repre nted the popalation of the Town, and 391 that of the Township outside of >wn.. By referring to the head of the lumns we Ond that "the populaton the Township includes that of all the ws in it"; so that 2,792 was thevop ation of Newberry Township, includ g the Town of Newberry, as taken in 70. This is verified by the fact that e population of the County in 1870 is it down in the Compendium at 20, 5, and that this result is obtained by t adding the 1,891, which shows that 391 is included in 2,792; in other Drds, that the population of the Town included in that of the Township. je population of the Town then in 70 was 1,891; this left the population the Township outside of Town only 1 against 2,140 in 1880-but that is e way it was taken. The discrepancy ay be explained, in part at least, by pposing that the census-taker for ewberry Township in 1870 was igno nt of the limits of the Township and nitted a large portion of it, and that is portion was taken by the census kers of the adjoining Townships 2 and for these two Townships in 1880 show decrease from 1870, which should not the case.
