PUBLIC MEETING.-A meeting of all citizens of the County is to be held at the Court House next sale-day, January 1, 1877. Every man in the County should attend, as matters of importance will be considered. Several men got shot in town Satur day-they got them to kill rabbits with Christmas. The tin-horn serenaders made things lively Monday night. They beat Wa.g ner's Oehestra all to pieces. The interest taken in the arrest of a drunken man on the streets is scarcely inferior to tUat of the Presidential elec tion. The trade of the HERALD Book Store Saturday amounted to $2,000-more or less; and one man paid his subscrip tioni. Three negroes stole a keg of wvhiskey from L. F. Smith's bar-room Friday night. The rogues were caught and and the whiskey recovered. HEGRO SaoT.-A negro shot and killed bimself with a pistol on the Chalmers place last - Satuiday evening. Accident. Mr. Henry Moats, living near Jalapa, had his band caught in a gin a few days ago, so mangling it that Dr. Folk had to amputate four of the fingers. "Mighty slick down street," was the way he explained it to his inquisitive spouse when he walked in Monday night with the snow sticking to his overcoat and hat. It is thought that not less than $500 worth of unbought goods went out of town Saturday: the stores were so crowded that the merchants and clerks corld not watch everybody. 0, the snow, the snow, the beautiful snow. Saturday night, Sunday and Sunday nigbt it snowed and rained and sleeted, and since then it has been slip, slide, splash. slush continually. If any body can see any beauty in such things they ars welcome to it all.. There were not less than 2,500 per sons onl the streets Satneday. The mner chants did a big business. Cas'. took in-8$725; Foot $715; Harmon over $500: Wheeler & Co., the same; Kinarrd sold over 500 pounds of candy. These are the only merebants heard from. Four years ago they stood before the altar; he a handsome groom, she a beautiful, blushiing bide. Last Sunday night they sat before the fire stuffing candiles and toys into two pairs of little stockings, while two little curly heads lay on the trundle bed dreaming of Santa Claus. Thieves attempted to break into Col. Lipscomb's store a second time Wed nesday night. the 20th instant. They bored out a place large enough for a small boy to enter; but as no goods have been missed, it is probable the rascals were frightened off before ac complishing their purpose. That was a shrewd husband who said to his loving wife Saturday, as he handed her a $10 bill to spend for Christmas, "My dear, if anybody give mec a Christmas present Monday I hope it will be a box of fine cigars."
