Four hat negroes each sold cotton to Mr. T. F. Harmon, two of them were either not dei tinctured with the prevailing epidemic, dor rascality, or knew nothing about the u three R's, especially the one relating to m figures. The other two, however, were more advanced, and on receiving their va cotton tickets with the weights, changedva the first figure of their bales from 4 to 5, and presenting them, received payw for 500 lbs. instead of 400. As soon as on4 it was discovered, Harmon went for fro them, and found one, who paid $20 to lac get out of the scrape, and was "berry inc tankful for dat." Folded to the size of a large octavo book, the subscriber would have 3,228 pages, equal to seven octavo books of ordinary size, say of* 460 pages each, and one-half of these pages to~ would contain fine engravings, and for the centennial year will make the most accurate and valuable illustrated liistory of the Na tional Jubilee published. The Cincinnati Gazette makes the aston ishing announcement that Cincinnati beer is no longer pure, but adulterated with mo lasses, sugar of starch, fusel oil and the poisonous colchicum. The Commissioner of Agriculture, in his report for 1865, says that Prof. Mapes, of New York, analyzed the beer from a dozen different breweries, and found all of it adulterated. Cocculus Tdicus an.1 r'ux vomica entered largely in to its compos.dion. J. C. SEEGERS guarantees his beer to be pure and reliable.
