REMOVAL FROM OFFICE.-Governor Chamberlain has announced the follow ing removals from the office of tria justice in this ton and county: Simeon Young, J. D. Heller, G. P. Jacoby and John S. Henderson. e AN ACCEPTABLE Oivi0Gw.---If there is any one thing more highly esteemed by us than another itis delicious, crisp celery, and to Mr. F. Clai-mont Moses are we under obligations for a couple of bunches which found their way to our ta onaturday last. We have had tender dreams ever since. Catalogues of the Books published by the Methodist Book House, at Nash can be seen at the HERALD Book Star and any selection made there from *Siordered with promptness. Orders respectfully solicited at the 2-tf HERALD BOoK STORE. QUARTRETRLY MEETING.-Saturday and Sunday the first quarterly meeting of Newberry Station will be held in the Iethodist Church. The Rev. Manning Brown will preside, and preaching may be expected by him on each of the days. 'Thedublic are cordially invited to at tend. ANOTHER SAD DEATHT.-We are pain ed to learn that Mrs. Welch, lately widowed by the death of her husband Mr. Jas. A. Welch,'died on Thursday last, near P'omaria, of Pneumonia. But a few days ago the husband was laid in the grave, and now the wife. Myste rious are the dealings of Providence. The announcement made by Messrs. Lovelace & Wheeler, that certain of thenr-goods will be sold for 30 days at and below cost, will make many souls happy, and we are glad that they have the disposition to give the people an op portunity to make themselves happy at a little cost. Their word may be relied on. - CJHEERIG.-We continue to hear fa vorable reports from the Orphan's Home.' Another generous mess of kroist has found its way to the hearts of its inmates through the old and favorite avenue the stomach. The institution, we are pleased to say, is in first rate condition, and a more grateful set of orphans never before existed. ST. VEEETE never designed that the happy season should last but one day, oh no, never. Because it falls on the 14th is no reason why it should end onAte.same day. So go Jt while you are young and happy, and while you have a dime or two, little people. Let the season last for fourteen days at least and have all the fun possible. -VTlPA....Frend MARsHiAL, - -l.""" who knows what the. people want, tells us that although hehsFRESH FISH in every Tues dy,Thursdays and Saturdays, and FRTR 'OYSTERS every Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, will, on NET FRIDAY, (19th,) have a fine lot of LARGE, FRESH AND FAT SHAD. -i The Baltimore Corner speaks through the voice of Mr. R. Cameron, the successor of Uncle Andy, and the pleas ing information is given that an elegant and large assortment of goods is in store, consisting of confectioneries. *fruits, groceries and a hundred other good things. It is a pleasant sona, and one wbich to people will be glad *to hear. TnE S'TrTE Ys. J- P. JIAnT)Y'~ will be remembered that at the last term of Court a motion in the above stated case was made for a change of venue. to be heard at Ujnion. We learn from . L. Schumpert, Esq., just returned from. Court held in that place, that the motion was argued befoie the lIon. M. Moses on the 11th and granted, and the sae changed to Spartanbulrg, where t&trial will come off in June next. This is bad weather for dwnning. the cold is so intense that we would ratther stay in doors and snuggle up to the fire. In the best of times it is disagreeable. and only when forced by (lire necessity do we venture on such err:mds, b)ut now it is worse than ever, and im ten der consideration of our feelings we request all persons without distinction to call on us and settle. Do not wait for us to call on vou, dear debtors, but come up. SLErr.-The bitter cold experienced here for the past week or more, culnmi nated on Wednesday night in a slight sleet, and later in a rain of liquid ice. which continued during the entire night. The sight presented the next morning was ookily beautiful, everything being -~dbikY and in many p)lace~s s eS were so heavily weighted that tey broke short off to the ground. REFRACTORY.-It took two of the town nvtshals to persuadc Saniul Do gan out of town on Monday. Sam wa.s on his charger and under the i;ilience of several charges of whiskey, but whether any of thedrinks were charged to him we know not, suflice it, le whc charged with being disorderly, and not being willing to depart quietly, was ignominiously expelled, one inarhl N tuggingoafthe bridle, and another stir- 1 ring up the horse with a hickory. Now the place v, here a everything in lass, Crockery, China. tI Wood, Tin and Willow ware, and a P hundred and one indispensable, labor- li saving things so necessary to the happi ness of the good housekeeper, can be ti found, without aparticle of trouble, ;s a Kingsland & Heath's popular store mnder the Columbia Hotel, in the city of Columbia. G-tf. THE CEMETERY MU) HoiES.-W( f understand that the Commissioners of Roads authorize the getting of pine n poles near the LbOVC named holes, that the road may be corduroyed. It unfor- ti tunately happens, however, that there are no trees immediately near, and the onsequence is that nothing is done to stop the gaps. We don't know what to advise in tie prremises. unless the hol be moved a few litndred yards where tl the pines do grow, or else a cont-ut i be given for the planting of youn: t I near the holes. Either plan is full of lictilties, but it will be better to tr I one or the other rather than do nothing. ef PLE.ASANT MEwS.-We are in r'ee;pt 0: of a letter from the 1rev. J. T. Shufor , i lately preacher in clrarge of NCwher Circuit, which makes pleasant mention f the happy and generous reception , given him 1by the p)eoplie of Wrightsi Bluff, where he is now located. The o any friends of this estimable christian ti gentleman will be rejoiced to know th~at 1 is e-mfortably provided for. and that i he is enjoying a large amount of happi- t nss. We certainly rejoice to know this, and return him our warmest th:mks~ for a kind invitation to come down amnd spend a few days. It wvould afford us e nuch pleasure to do so. We send him b the HERmALD instead for the present, asg n urgent plea comes from the whole' family for it.a A SENsmr.E FELLOW.-The mlost sensible travelling merchant we have ever had the pleasure of meeting, inter viewed us hurriedly one day last week. tI e wvas a picture dealer; he called with I is box, which he laid upon the tablea ith a smiling countenance and the in quiry, "Did 'w want any pictures?"~ Our mind not being in frame and see ing that his waYes.were in like unhappy (j ondition we said, "Not any, thank t ou." Unlike all - other commercial P travellers, he gathered his box am.1 a speedily retired without another word. We confess to complete surprise and n rank him among the few sensible men b of this generation, and even head and e shoulders above them all. His consid- b eration for our feelings entitles him to 0 our gratitude, and if ever he comes C this way again we shall buy one of his ' rainbow colored chromos to remember him by. Oh, that 'here were more just n like him. .. - n To TIE YOUNG PEoPLE.-The most >f oc young V alentine senders are not vare that it is nee"ssary to place a on e I ent stamp on their little missives, andI in consequence quite a number of Ya! entines are now in the office which willi not reach the ones for whom they ar e ntended. This is an unfortunate fix, nd we sympathize with the young peo- t. pie deeply. If we were the Postmast'r General we should for one time allow these pleasant little documents to goas free as the air, for they breathe a dlelight ful atmosphere of love. We thought better of Uncle Sam, and did not thik he could :ac~t so cruelly as to stop th f psgeof so small athing as a Valin ' tine. Would we were aPonae General or Capt:in, every little u should be mamde happy. We adviseth children to call for their ~unstam'pe doenents before they are sent to th lead 'Letter Ofie., at Washirgson.
