Another Dreadful Dmster.
TeJIong chapter of disasters still
lengthns, each day adaing fresh hor
rors to the dreadful summary of loss
in life and property, by fire, flood,
railroad accidents, explosions, &c.
The following is the latest, of which
we make a synopsis from the daily
papers:
On the night of the 26th one of the
mostfearful rain storms ever known,
visited Alleghany City, Pennsylvania,
and the devastation effected was wide
spread and shoCking. The rain con
menced to fall about eight o'clock,
Justwhen the church bells had ecased
their tolling and when worshippers
were engaged in religious exercises.

seemed as if the gates of heaven had
opened wide and allowed the deluge
free scope, for never before has any
one in this neighborhood witnessed

the -rains yesterdry shows a fall of

half inches-more than twice as much
as has ever been known to fall in the
same space. The thuuder and light
ning were terrific, and the death cry
of scores of vietims rose upon the air
from a dozen submerged localities. It
was not until the break of day that
the full horrors of the flood were
known. When the rain em nced
falling but little appre,hension was en
tertaine&, but those who live near the
