last Friday morning, the 17th inst.
His body was borne to the grave and

AN ACCDENT.-We Saw an occur
rence near the Cemetery last Sinday,
which will give one a faint idea of the
condition in which the recent rains have
left our roads. Mr. Thomas M. Lake,
accompanied by his wife, while driving
along that road. had his horse to mire
his front legs up to the shoulders in the
mud. le fortunately got out safely,
with the assistance that happened to be
near, though after some time and at a
good deal of risk. That mud hole there
is terrible.

THE CEMETERY.-We noticed the
other day that the fence around the
Cemetery is needing a little attention.
If not fixed in time the hogs and cows
will likely get in and destroy the shrub
bery and otherwise injure the place.
We saw in the Progressire Age a- short
while since a remark which meets with.
our entire app)robation. It was that
some kind of structure should be erect
ed on the grounds for i-etreat in case of
rain. This would be a good thing. A
cheap temporary shelter would answer
now until the town exchequer will al
low a better one.

ple of this County expect to wait before
organizing Tax Unions and an Immi
gration Bureau? It is high time we
were'-up and doing. Other counties
are forming these organizations and yet
we have folded oa.r armas and seem not
to care whether we do anything or not.
Away with such indifference at such aI
time. It is suicidal. Those who snake
no effort to secure liberty do not deserve
it. Perhaps everybody is waiting on
some one else to start. Let thie dele
gates to the Convention move in the
matter.

ONCE MORE.-The possessors of fiow
er gardens on Caidwell Street, who
were so long made unhappy by the de
predations of that yellow and white
spotted cow, and who were suddenly
made to rejoice when the owner had
her converted into beef, are again made
Ito mourn by the aggressions of another
animal of the same species, but without
spots and of a'dun color, and quite ais
expert in lifting gate latches as her pre
decessor. We do not know whether
Sthe spirits of defunct cows are permitted
Ito revisit their old hunting grounds or
not, but would incline to that belief if
this one had anly spots about her-and
yet here's the rub, the spotted cow was
done for by the butcher, and in her stead
comes one also dun, with like characte

by hunger. We cannot live much
longer on ham, -with a poor cow or two
