.INTS FOR THE FARMER.
1. A knowledge of what his
land will produce, is necessary to
the farmer that he may know
what expense may be asowed in
.i-:.liivnen. te. Thiz he must
learn by trying his land-he may
think be knows by what others
have done. This well enough, if'
he is sure he can do as others do.
2. A'great many unsuccessful
farmers get in the grass, and fail
to keep up with their work, but
you will hardly ever 6nd one that
has not aIn excuse. It was too
wet tor* t1w, drt-v. or the hands fhil
ed to work, or something prevent
ed the work being done in the
proper way and at the proper
time; when the real cause was
&ad management. And the reason
why they don't learn to manage
better is, they don't attribute the
results to their true cause. If
they would say I failed, instead of
the seasons, ete, they might learn
to mana.e het t-r.
3. A .:41-meWr sli-tild know what
hi- me*an- will :dmit of his doing
-h-,w many haik mnh>s. ete.. it
m ill take toj do the work he pro
p"se: t. have done in a certain
time. Thiis perhaps requires the
lict-st. of :111 eah-kilatiols, and as
!11,11 11Y natur'e wanits loa domr"
i -an 1- van lo. it would be well
for himl1 to guard agailst laying of
more work hani i he is able to dil.
The only rule that I can give :hat
wi be siure to guard him against
this great error, is to calculate
what h will do this year by what
he diI last.
4. A great many good men, and
especially fitrmners, are careless or
indolent. They are always cheer
ful and accommodating, and pro.
posing to do a great deal next
year. but Wait until it im too late
to begin. The way to avoid this,
is to commence at once, and never
stop. If you are waiting for to
morrow or next week, before you
go to work, you may know you
belong to this class of good fel
lows.
5. The farmers who make more
than they consume, generaliy
know whbat their land; will pro
duce-what their meants will ad
mit of their doing-lay off no more
work than they can have done,
and adopt a rule. for cultivation
that they are able to carry out. If
these things mark a man's success
in business, the 3 oung man would
do well to heed them.
6. To know how to do is indis
pensably nec-essar-y. This m?iy be
acquiired by seeing others do, or
by r-ealing how they do. It is
equal ly n ecessar-y to know wrhat
one knows and what he can do.
Let us consider how wye may leamrn
this. Did your business last year
turn Out what you expec-ted it
would ? If it did not, ac-knowi
edge the fault as your-s, and not
knowing wh at to expect. etc. Did
yotu cariry out yotur plan ? if niot,
more than likely the fault wvas
your:s, and you wVouldl generaly
do well to st) conitder it. Di)d yonu
do all the wor-k yout proposed ? It
you did niot, actowledge that it
was your fanult not knowing n hat
to expect of y-ourself. By such
procedure you may learn y-ourself
by the same r-ule that (:thers know
y~ou by, which is: What you will
do and know, by w~hat you hav-e
done and known -Southern Culti
vator.
MOSEY 1N EGGs.-Eggs are ii
active d)emand at a good prie-.
They are wanted for home cmi
51oninot and for- sUhiment, both
East West. Egas have c-ummnand
- ed a good pr-ice dur-ing ad the re
cent period that cor-n, wheat and
ouits have been so very lowv.
Ever since the war the p)ro
diuction, of eggs has been a fayiun
business. and the wonider- is that
more Iar-mer.s do not give atteni
tioni to this profita ble branch of
husbandry. Rail Ads have bene
fitted the busimness of producing
eggs, as they can hie sent at a comi
p)arative-ly small cost to the sea
board on either ocean, where therec
is a!hways a good demand for them
at good prices.
Tue impr-oved egg carriers, that
have been brought out, duringz the
past few year-s, have rendered the
ranisportatuon of eggs comparatLN
tively sate, and have done mtuch to I
help the tirade ini this imlportant
article of foodl. But for all that
eggs arec high and gr-ains and
meat, atre low, less attenitionl is
giv en to the prmoutction of the for- '
mmer thain in the old times when
they were worth but a four-th
what they are now. Almosct

supply o. eggs from thirii patron's.
