I ton raised by Stevens & Cureton, on 1 acres
of stubble land, which was manured with 400
pounds of Carolina Fertilizer. The following
is the mode of cultivation: It was thoroughly
broken up 12 inches deep, and laid off in rows
34' feet wide, and the Fert,;l'-zer applied in the
drill, then bedded on it on the 15:h of May,
and planted the same dy, but owing to the
cool and dry weathr, did n.,t cime up to a
st:md until about the 1st of June. Fir-t work
ing it was run around wi:l a half shovel and -
partially trimmed out with a hoe. Second
working it was run around with a 3 inch
grub, 12 inches long. and,. the middles thrown
out with a sweep 18inches wide. One furrow
to a row and thinned to a stand with a hoe
, about 12 inches botween the stocks, and af
terward.4 it was plon-hed every two weeks.
