Fertilizer, which I used upon light sandy
land at about one hundred and twenty-five
lbs. (125 1b<.) to the acre, and I am convinced
that it doubled the crop even with the dry
season that I experienced at my place, and I
ca,I safely say that the free use of good Fer
tiliser< will pay as an investment with cot
ton at 10 to 12c.

DEAR SIR: My opinion of the use of Fer
tilizcrs, and the result of 42 Tons I purchased
of Carwile & McCaughrin last spring, is thait
the free use of good Fertilizers year arter year
Iwill add greatly to the value of the land and
will pay a handsome dividend as an invest,
ment. I cannot go into details, but as an
instance: [ have land at my home place that
4 years ago it took 20 acres to make 3 bales
of cotton, now, after the free use of Fertili
zers for three years, will produce a tale of
cotton of 400 lbs. to each acre, and some of
it more, and last year 5 acres of~ it yielded
160 bushels Wheat. The last two seasons I
have purchased from your fnn, stome 70
Tons Fertilizers, and can recommend the
Carolina Fertilizer, Pacific Guan.o and Baughis
Raw Bone, all of~ which I believe to he excel
lent manures and fully up to wha: they aic
represented to be.

DEAR SIR: In answer to your enquiry as
to the merit" of t he Carolina Fertnlizer and
other Guanos, purchased from Carwile &
McCaughrin last Spring, amounting in all to
about ten Tons, I take pleasure in making
the following statements:
On 6 acres upland, light, sandy soil, I
used 250 lbs. Carolina Fertilizer peracre, and
gathered fromn each, 2,300 lbs. seed cotton or
13.800 lbs in all.
On 25 acres upland, of the sanme kind of
soil, I used Guano's in about Ihe same pro
portion, and made from this field abont li
bales lint cotton per acre, or 37 bales in all,
each weighing over 400 lbs.
For the preparing and cultIvation of these
lands I followed the satme plan as recom,~
mended in my report on Cotton to the Agri
cultural Society, in Columbia, on 9th Nov.,
~~ - 'm my pact experience in
the use of Fertilizers~*i they are protirabie,
with Cotton at 10 to 121c. pymr~1. , aw
pay at these prices at least 100 per cent. on
amount invested.
