to define the criminal jurisdiction of
Trial Justies. According to the bill,
Trial Justices are empowered, in cases
.>f crimes of a higher grade, to call upon
any citizen to serve their warrants
and make arrests, and the person so
called upon is compelled to obey, under
a penalty of fine and imprisonment in
the Penitentiary.
Introduction of a hill to amend title
five of part one of the code of procedure.
The bill gives Trial Justices the criminal
as well as the civil jurisdiction formerly
given to Magistrates.
And a bill to alter and amend the code
of procedure. The bill contemplates a
n holesale reduction of costs, attorneys,
clerks. &c.
A House hill to regulate the right of
traverse also passed and was ordered to
be enrolled.
On a bill to make an appropriation for
pay of members, Mr. Swails said he was
oppr,osed to further appropi iations until
the 135,OO0 made away with, mostly
for incidental expenses, beaccounted for.
Mr. Wimbush, whose head is level on
this point, said the gentleman's curios
ity was natural, but what the mysterious
words, incidental expenses meant. would
never he known. Mr. Les'ie thought this
a small leak and not worth notice, it was
the big swindles against which thunder
.h,ould be directed. The bill passed a
second reading.

Another run off of a palace car occurred
last Saturday morning. It was the np-train
from Columbia. The accident fortunately
happened near the depot, and while the train
was proceeding at a moderate rate. The
locality of the accident was providentially be
tween two embankments. The only injury
sustai"ed was by a little girl, whose hand
we learn was painfully bruised.

SALE-DAY -Although the n-eather was in
clement on Monday last, anal the ro.ads
wretchedly bid, from the late heavy rainus,
there was an unusually large crowd of per
