source of extreme annoyance to the Command
ers in Charleston, and the information they were

tured,designs upon the enemy. As a proof os
the completeness of this conspiracy, it may be
remarked. that the daily papers of the city were
frgquetitly read on board the blockade feet, the
same day of their publication.

has taken the principal characters and Incidents
in thi .afair, aid under assumed names, has pre
sented then in the forth of a thrilling, and well
written romance, historic and imaginative. The
circumstances of the story are detailed a. begin
ning on James Island and in connection with
some of the South Carolina Regiments stationed
there. After many thrilling adventures- in
which the "female spy" fgures largely, the he
roes of-the plot follow their regiment to Vir
g.nia. before the walls of Petersb%.r,. The sur
render of General Lee's Army in 1865, finds
tiem again among the Santee hills, where the
