REPOR'rED DIFEClULTY IN LoVIsIANA
TEN FREEDMEN KILLED.-The Louisiana
Baptist, published at Mount Lebanon,
La., has the following in its issue of the
17th of last month :
"A gentleman just from Texas, we
understood, relates'the following circum
stance as ha'ving occurred on Black
Bayou, near Jefferson. - We learn that
he was .near the farm ..where the facts
took place a few days 'after the occur
rence A farmer had a number of hands
employed, under written contract for
one third. of. the crop, lie was from
home when they commienced gathering,
and, on retarning, found that they were
taktng half instead of a third of the crop.
He remonstrated and told them of the
contract, but they became 'enraged, and
finally made an attack upon him, ar'd
he, in defending hiqpself, shot clown four
of them with a revolver. Going to town,
he reported the facts to a Federal officer,
who sent an armed force to investig;ate
and set things to right. The negroes de
fed and finally atacked this force, when
