The political movement in favor of electing General Grant as the next President has met with wonderful success. The Republicans of all shades accept the proposition as the best if not DnIly mode of securing l:eir desired ends. That is the compromise to be offered to the eleven Southern States. The Republicans are to have the Presidency for the next term, and the South may have restoration and representation. WEST PoINT, Jure 2.-The funeral services of ten. Scott were most impressive. There were present many distinguished persons fronn all sections of the country, tnd State and municipal olicers. The Government was also represented. Respect was paid to the memory of the deceased in nearly all of the Eastern cities. Twofemale mornomaniacs, recently go! married. Lucy Slater and a Miss Perry, of Abingdon, Mass. They ran off-Lucy assumed the name of Jas. Sla ter, and became the hu-band of his or her ena:m -ored lover. A young Prussian officer lately died whose heart was on his right side, with the liver on the left, and other internal organs correspondingly reversed. He had always enjoyed good health, and died of typhus fever. On two plantations, in the Distriet, one hun. dred and ten acres of cotton have been ploughed op, and corn planted instead. Oin will call the Legislature together, so that our laws may be -made to conform to the action of Congress. GoverLor Orr, of South Carolina and other roninent citizens of Charle,ton, propose the common school system for colored cbildren in that city. NEW ORLANS, June 2.-The levee at Alexandria has given way and the town is flooded. The entire Red River country is devastated. Almost three thousand Mormons are expected in New York, from Euro-e.
