the names of defaulting tax payers, and of those
who- fail to make the returns required by this
Ordinance, to the said Council, it being the duty
of said Town Council to issue double-tax execu
tions against all persons who shall fail to nmake
the required returns, or shall fail or refuse to
pay tie taxes levied, in accordance with the pro
visioens of this Ordinance.
Be ft firther Ordaned, That all male residents
between the ages of sixteen and fifty years,
within the Town of Newberry, shall be liable to
work the streets of the said Town. three days in
each and every quarter, of three months, during
the year 186t, but that in lieu thereof, any
person so liable, may purchase an exemption
from such duty by paying to the said Clerk of
the Council, such exempntion fees as shall be fixed
by said Council for each quarter of the year.
And any person failing to perform such street
duty or to pay the exemption fees in lieu thereof,
when so required, shall be fined not less than
hve dollars for each day he shall have failed or
refused to work on the said streets in accordance
with the summons therefor.
And be i/,further Ordainmed, That the said Town
Council will pay fifty dollar-s to any person who
eball furnish sufficient evidence to convict any
white person of selling spirituous liquors, within
the limits of the said Town of Newberry, contra
ry to the laws of this State.

37 HE SPRING SESSION of this School will be
gin on the 12th day of February ne.xt. It
is very desirable that pupils should enter at the
commencement of the session, but they will be
re -eived at any timne, and charged from the time
of entering.
This school has been taught by me for several
years, and has hitherto been linmited in the nunm
er of scholars, but I will now receive a I who
may apply for adnmission, and will employ conmpe
tent assistants, as the increasing number of pupils
may make it necessary to do so.
My health having been fully restored, Ipropose
to devote all my time and energy to the huilding
up of such a school as shall furnish facilities for
acquiring a complete education to girls -who can
not be sent fromt home for that purpose, and all
the advantages of the best schtools in the State
to those whose circumstances allow of their being
sent abroad.
Having many years' experience as a teache,r,
the mystem of instruction pursued will be such as
that experience has proved to be most efficient
