McGlone insisted that it was his pet her "Betty." The cell door was open and the hen flew right into "Paddy's" arhis. "That's enough for me," said Judge Naar. "Take Betty home, Paddy."? Harmon has been elected magistrate at Lexington over his opponent, J. Frank Kleckley, by a good majority. J. H. Frick was elected to succeed himself in the second district over J. H. Roberts. W. E. Lorick was re-elected without opposition in the third. Ioor Hayes elected to succeed himself in the fourth over F. P. Shealy and O. B. Addy. Boyd F. Berry was elected in the fifth over Jas. W. Roof and O. R, Rich. E. M. Martin is elected in the fifth while E.'R. Steadman and C. O. Wiee will run over in the 8th. There was no candidate in the 7 th, and Magistrate J. A. Gayden will likely continue to hold the scales of justice. Lever Cotton Standard Bill Favorably Reported Washington, Aug. 27.?The Lever bill to establish government standards for cotton grading today was favorably reported by the House agriculture committee. The bill is tfcie first of proposed measures to relieve the cotton industry from the depressing effects of the European war. It provides for a system of standards to be promulgated by the department of agriculture and inspection by licensed inspectors to definitely fix the grades of each bale ginned. The bill for government supervised warehouses will be taken up by the agricultural committee Saturday. The Clemson Home Coming; Clemson College, S. C., August IS. ?Everything is in readiness for the great "Home Coming" of ex-Olemson students on August 27 to 31. President Riggs states that he is expecting between 1,000 and 1,200. An attractive program has been arranged and no detail looking to the comfort and pleasure of the visitors will be overlooked. The expected number of old students will tax to the utmost the capacitv of the dormitories, dining hall and memorial hall in which ail the public exercises will beheld. For that reason, as well as the fact that the "Home Coming" is a "family affair" none but ex-students are invited or will be permitted to register or be entertained during the "Home Coming." This rule will be strictly observed. Other visitors are welcome to the college campus at any other time. This announcement is made in ad vance so tha': none but ex-students j will make their plans to visit the college during the "HomeComing." Postively no accomodations can be f.-i nrhMM ac that time. The UV4 v" " J "Homo Coming'' is a strictly college affair, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Act of Acceptance which lead to the establishment of the college. Greenville, Aug. 27?Luther Hawkins, 30 years old, charged with having five living wives in three states, was sentenced to serve four years and six months on the chain gang and pay a fine of $5,000 in criminal court here today. The scene was a touching one as the man stood to receive his sentence. The wives and their relations stood near by and g?zed upon the broken man more with sadness, than reproach. Kis last wife, a mill girl of this place, is not more than 17 years old. She has stood by him throughout. Soldiers Patrolling Streets of Mexico City Mexico City, August 26.?(Delayed by Censorship.)?Rural guards were attempting to arrest a Constitutionalist to-night when comrades came to his rescue rnd shots were exchanged. The trouble became more serious when the rural guards withdrew to the 5th ward police station. The shooting was renewed and continued for half an hour during which it is reported seven persons were killed. The city is now quiet, save for scattering shots in the neighborhood of the police station. The infantry and cavalry are patrolling the streets. Unclaimed Letters.
