The Couaty Board of Commissioners
were in session Monday, getting
everything in readiness for the annual
settlement. Although the board was
kept busy throughout the day, the
claims were not as heavy as usual for
the month of June.

Fla.. but formerly of Swansea. In

Last Saturday nieht Mr. Buel
Boone was struck by lightning while
standing in his house looking out of the
window. It struck him in the left arm,
crossed his body and ran down his
right leg. Mr. Boone is at work and
says he thinks he will be all right in
a few days.
Last Sunday Mr. Lee Sharpe and
John W. Shumpert went down to
Woodford on the train and intended
to return that night, but the train left
them and thev hung their coats over
their arms and took a little exercise
walk of ab'Mit twelve miles home.
Thats what I eall exercise of the limbs
and taking in the fresh night air at
the same time.

Lexingtonians in Hospital.
The many Lexington friends of Mr.
Elijah Rawl will regret to learn that
he is desperately ill at the Columbia
hospital. Mr. Charlie Geiger and son,
Norman, spent iast- night at his bedside.
Since writing the above and just as
we go to press we learn that Mr. Rawl
diod this morning and will be buried
at St. Marks church, near his home in
Richland county, at 11 oclock a. m.
Blythwood is the railroad station.
Mr. Sidney Geiger,- who has been in
the hospital*for the past several weeks,
is also ill. hi9 condition having not
improved as satisfactorily as had been
hoped for.

Funeral of E. L. Corlejy. j
The remains of the late Emanuel
L. Corlev, the highly respected farmer
who died at his home near Lexington
at an early hoar Friday, 18thy were
laid to rest near Providence Lutheran
church at 11 o'clock Satnrday ih the
presence of one of the largest congregations
ever assembled in this section
to pay a last silent tribute to the departed
dead. The funeral wag conducted
from the church by the; Rev.
P. D. Risinger, assisted by the Rev.
J. A. Cromer /The deceased, a "few
days before hi9 death, selected the
text from which his funeral was to Be
preached, the text oDly containing the
five words, "Prepare to meet thy God."
Mr. Corley wa9 perhaps the oldest
resident in Lexington county, he having
reached the age of 90 years and 21
days. He had never been seriously j

only a few days. His wife, who survives
with seven children, is 91 years
of age and lias also enjoyed the best
of health, and was able to attend the
burial of her husband. The children
?five sons and two daughters?are:
W. Albert, Wade F., Willie E., Bennie
C. and D Lawrence Corley, Mrs.
Ellen Cleckley, and Mrs- Lucy Arehart.
The deceased was a member of Company
K. 20th South Carolina regiment,
in the War Between the States, under
Capt. W. D. M. Harman, and was as
good a soldier as ever carried a musket,
says those who were associated with
him in that most memorable struggle.
Mr. Corley was a prominent member
of the Ldtheran church, a good man,
and splendid citizen. His life is an
inspiration and blessed heritage to
his children.
