Prefers Charges
Spartanburg, April 23 ?Indictments
were returned by the grand jury today
against seven men alleged to have been
members of the mob which attempted
to lynch Will Fair, a negro, here
August IS last year. They are Horace
Finish, Gus Ford, O. M. Tbighen, W.
R. Belcher, Jesse Wolfe, Robert Wilson
and Robert Ward. A mob stormed
the jail and blew down the gate
with dynamite. It was repulsed by
the sheriff and bis deputies in an all
night battle in which three men were
shot. Fair was accused by a white
woman of a serious crime be* was later
tried and found not guilty.

belonging to a freight train crew, had
the misfortune of having iiis jight
foot cut off this morning while his
train wa3 shifting in Leesville. He

Swansea, April 23.?Ben Jones, who
drives a wagon for James Price, was
shot and killed about 2 o'clock this
afternoon by Mo9e Jones. One ball
entered the neck and another the
month, causing instant death. The
negroes were not related. Moee and
his wife did not li7e together and
when he saw Ben in company with
her thi9 evening he shot him. Jealousy
was perhaps at the bottom of
the affair.

Governor Blease returned to Columbia
Friday from Spartanburg, where

Ne^ro Is Killed
Lancaster, April 23. ? A negro named
Boston Walker was shot and killed
here today by Knox Crockett, another
n6gro, in a poolroom of a back street.
It is not positively known whether the
killing was a result of a negro diffionlty
or not. Some claim tbat the shooting
was accidental, while others say that
the dead negro was deliberately murdered.
The verdict of the coroner's
jury was that Walker came to his death
from.a gunshot wound from a gnn in
the hands ol Knox Crockett. The deceased
lived after being shot only
abont five minntes. Crockett is in jail.

Editor Charged With Libel.
Columbia, April 23.?Two warrants
charging James H. Moore, editor of
The Columbia Record, with criminal
libel were sworn out before Magistrate
Bneschel by W. F. Blackburn,
stenographer for the Governor. The
warrants allege that Governor Blease
was libelled by certain editorial publications
in The Record.
Mr. Moore promptly furnished bond
in the sum of $5,000
