On account of bad weather the Rev.
J. D. Shealy was unable to fill his
appointment at Mt. Pleasant iast Sunday,
but will fill his place at the usual
hour next Sundr.y.
Misses Ruth and Anna Belle Long,
pf Summerland College, spent the
week-end at home, Miss Rath has
t>een -suffering from a severe attack of
the grippe, but we are giad to say mat
. ehe is very much improved.
Miss Eula Price, also of Summerland
College, spent Saturday and Sunday
-at home. She was accompanied by
her two college-mates, Miss McGee,
of Saluda, and Miss Sanders, of Aiken
oonnty, and all attended Sunday school
at Mt. Pleasant.
Mr. Adam R. Hendrix has taken
work with his uncle, Prof. S. S.
Xjindler, for the year. Adam is a jolly
fellow and makes the Piney Woods
ring.
Mr. Harry O. Lindler is visiting the
fcomefolks for a few days. He is the
popalar and efficient book-keeper at
the Seaboard's round-house at Cayce,
and Is held in the highest esteem by
-aU who know him. S.
News from Peak.
We were saddened by the news of
the death of John H. Bushardt, who
>died Saturday morning about nine
-o'clock at Columbia hospital where he
had gone to have an operation per*
formed. He was paralyzed about 8
years ago from which he never recovered.
The funeral was preached by Rev.
Fnlmer. He was buried by the Masons
of Pomaria Lodge A. F. M., of which
he was a member and filled several important
offices. He was a member of Mt.
Hermon CJharch, 'a deacon, secretary
4uid treasurer for many years. He
-served as postmaster at Peak a long
time.
The "good roads'' spirit is prevailing
and the overseers are putting their
-Toads in good condition.
Great improvements have been made
-dn the schools, and the Peak school
stands second to none and extra good
service is being done by Prof. Fnlmer
*nd his efficient assistant.
The big dam at Parrs will soon be
completed and we hope that our residences,
churches, lodges, store houses
-and railroad station will soon have
-electric lights. . ? .

Raising The Titanic
The scheme for attaching lifting electro-magnets
to the Titanic's side is
feasible as far as their attractive power
is concerned, for such magnets are
now used in steel mills- for lifting
masses of steel and iron weighing upward
of 150 tons, says Leslie's Weekly,
bat to place them in position on
the surface of the steel hull is not so
easy. <
For this latter purpose it is proposed
to use a submarine boat specially con- j
sfcructed for withstanding the extreme
water pressure to which it will be sub- <
jected. This boat will be likewise op- (
crated by electric current, through {
cables secured to boats on the surface, i
but it will be controlled by a crew in j
rthe submarine. It will be the work of
-these men to adjust the lifting mag- 1
nets in their proper positions around
the hull.
If the scheme should prove successful
in raising the Titanic, other) ships
having iron or steel hulls which have
sunk and whose positions are known
will be raised for the salvage of treas- '
