f? J. Big Suit Brought Against Railway. Through her attorneys, W. Boyd Syans, of Columbia, and James H. fanning, of Springfield, Mrs. clara V. Padgett, as administratrix of the estate her husband, Lewis H. Padgett, has Drought suit in the Lexington county court of common pleas against the Seaboard Air Line Railway company for $75,000. Lewis H. Padgett, a for mer resident of Edgefield county, was Amnlnno/I on QnninnD, f,\r" fho SofthflRrd Vllipil/JCU CIO OUgCUC/VC kUA VUV WV-k/ and while in the discharge of his duty, at cayce, he fell into a drop-pit in tbe new round house at cayce, his mangled body having been found on the morning of January 12 by his coworkers, after an effort had been made to find him by members of his train crew. This is the largest amount ever asked for by a plaintiff against a railroad in the courts of this county, with the exception of the Mattie Moore case, against the same company and for the ame amount, tried at the February term of court this year. The Moore case is very striking to the Padgett case, both plaintiffs being wives of men killed in the yards a6 cayce. The Padgett case will be called at November term. The body of young Lewis wa9 found a week ago today by train crew No. 27 of the Southern Railway, lying be*ide the tracks, with the upper portion of his head crushed and a deep long ga9h on the right side of neck. After hearing the testimony of two witnesses last Sunday, at the request of the jury, the proceedings were continued until 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Many witnesses were sworn last night, and a great deal of damaging evidence going to show that the young man had been murdered and * - - * -?l i 1 Ll. robbed, was adduced, duc cue ummt; could not be placed on anyone. Sheriff Miller, of this place, stated that the finding of the coroner's jury did not mean that the case would be dropped; that he would continue to work on the case.
