In place or the stereotyped "grand entree," with which circuses have been content to open their program for many years, the Barnum & Bailey entertainment is inaugurated by the splendid spectacle entitled, "Cleopatra," a wordless play based upen the story of Egypt's ancient queen. The story Is effectively pantomimed and there is a cast of 1,200 persons, including a ballet of dancing girls trained by Ottakar Bartik, of the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City. The costumes and properties are historically correct and the entire innovation is the most stupendous thing ever attempted under canvas. Eugenie Silbon portrays the "Sorceress of the Nile," while Camille Fortune, a pantomimist of merit, enacti the role of Antony. Johannes Josefsson'i company of Icelandic gladiators are oonspicuous newcomers to the Barnum & Bailey tents. A baseball game between elephant players is another surprise. A troupe of Jin jitsu expert* perform amazing feats.
