Rights-Of-Way For New Road.
The promoters of the South Carolina
and Georgia railway are busy at this
time securing rights of way between
Oolumbit and Augusta preparatory to
beginning the work of grading for the
road. Committees of citizens- living,
along the route the road will take are
securing the rights of way and in most
instances they are having little trouble
as the people appreciate that the new
road will mean untold development to
their immediate sections.
Mr. Gadsden Shand, who is interested
in the road as engineer, went to
New York recently to confer with M.
P. McGrath, who has the contract for
building the road, but Mr. McGrath
was in Canada. He is expected to come
to this state in the near future.
George Bell Timmerman, Thomas P.
Meetze, Karl F. Oswald, Sam J. Leaphart,
and J. S. Caugbman, the committee
of Lexington citizens appointed
recently to assist the promoters in
securing of rights of way and lend
other assistance, if needed, held a conference
with the chief engineer, Gadsden
E. Sband, for the purpose of locating
the proposed route as near as
possible. It was decided that anoiher
route be surveyed within the next few
days, and thereby give the right of
way people some basis to work upon.
Mr. James U. Jackson of Augusta,
who will build the road, recently made
a trip over the proposed route and
found that the citizens are strongly in
favor of it and will lend all assistance
possible in putting the project through.

Fugitive Is Caught.
Sam Shelton, alias Mack Bowers, a
negro, who is wanted in Greenwood
county for the alleged murder of Jim
Boyd, another negro, in 1901, was captured
by Sheriff Sim J. Miller of this
county at Mclntyre's sawmill. Sheriff
T. W. McMillan of Greenwood came
to Lexington, was positive that the
right man had been captnred, and
Shelton was carried back to Green
wood.

A revival was being held in a little
town where once the worst sins conceivable
had been dancing and cardplaying,
but where a knowledge 01
more picturesque peccadilloes had penetrated.
The preacher was anathematizing
these new sins.
"Hell, "is paved with cocktails,
chorus girls and automobiles!"
