BE SQUARE.
We may name a hundred drawbacks
That a man must meet in life,
. We may say it's all a "battle"
And never ending "strife."
Than resolve to meet it bravely?
Stand the test?to do and dareBut
the secret of true victory
Lies in one word, just be "square."
There is something in the twinkle
Of an honest fellow's eye
That can never be mistaken
And can never be passed by;
Be his station high or lowly.
There's that dauntless, upright air,
That convinces all beholders
* That the man they see is "square."
'V"\mw*> ' * '
Heaven gives such men influence
Over those they daily meet;
If they see a fallen brother ?
They will help him to his feetMake
the "sneaks" a bit uneasyMake
the "false" act kind of fair,
For the greatest rogue on record
Will respect the man who's 'square.'

Blease-Tlllman.
Anderson, May 14?Governor Blease
scored B. R. Tillman today in referring
to the fraud charges in the Fir9t district.
The governor said that Tillman
is weak-minded and that the senior
>3nator is getting old and feeble. "Beciuse,"
said Blease, "he admits and
boa9ts of the fa t that he is the father
of the primary and y it he says he was
not a statesman but a politician fixing
something for tbe present in 1690 and
for bi9 own encte and purposes.
The governor says Tillman should
have planned then to safeguard the
primary. "Then he would not now be
befouling his own nest and sayin*. that
his own child has been debauched."
Governor Blease charged openly that
his opponents in the 1912 primary
bought votes. /
"I have always heard that chickens
would come home to roost," said
Blease with reference to Editor Gonzales*
appointment as minister to Cuba,
"and I am not surprised that the
Cuban is trying to go back."
As to the Barney Evans disbarment
Governor Blease said that he wishes
now he had a job to give Barney, for he
felt sorry for him. - - ...
"The supreme court has endorsed
my parole system,*' added the governor,
"in paroling Evans by saying to
him, *you are guilty, but we parole
you on condition that you are of good
behavior, and drink no intoxicating
liquors for two years * "
As to the senatorial race Governor
Blease said that it did not interest him
very much, as he had attained his ambition
when he became governor. He
laid, however, he would be elected..
Governor Blea6e said that the editor I
