with friends in Columbia.

Memorial Bay Exercises*
Saturday, May 10th, Memorial Day,
was observed here last Saturday, May
10, with beautiful and appropriate exercises.

house and were presided over by Col.
M. D. Harman, Commandant otCamp
Steadman, who made some touching
remarks concerning the observance of
the day and its hallowed memories.
Mr. Ruston, Pastor of St. John Methodist
chnrch opened the ceremonies with
prayer, and was called upon for remarks.
He was followed in the order
named by Col. J. Brooks Wingard, T.
O. Callison, Mr. Samuel J. Leaphart
and Prof W. E. Black.
Col. Harman stated that an effort
won Id be made to organize a Daught
era of the Confederacy Camp here at
an early day who would take these
memorial exercises in hand and carry
(hem through.
After the exercises at the court
house the procession was formed and
those present took up a line of march
to 8t. Stephen cemetery where flowers
were laid upon the graves of the sleep*
log heroes. Other cemeteries, including
the monument, were visited by
committers.
