At a meeting; of the stockholders of
the Lexington County Fair Associa

| tion held Monday, the secretary raaue ;
the gratifying report that 180 shares j
of 9tock amounting to $900 bad a^ady
been subscribed to put the Association
| on a cash basis. The stockholders de-?
sire to raise-flOO more by the sale pf
t wenty shares of stock for the purpose |
of making some improvements on
. the grounds and buildings.
The people of- Lexington county
have exhibited by their sahscriptions
a support for the Association which
is very gratifying to the management
Iand it also shows that the benefits to I
the agricultural interests of the county j

A Negro Desperado.
Hampton, April 30 ? Pursued into

posse of determined men, Richard
Henry Austin, a negro, charged with
[ attempted criminal assault upon the
i wife of a prominent citizen of Luray
turned upon the hunters and fired shot
after shot from his buckshot loaded
' gun, two of the loads finding fatal
lodgment in the bodies of F. H. Eienfield,
magistrate of Allendale, and J.
Frank Bowers, a farmer of the Luray
section. Four other men?Dr. S. C.
Moore of Hampton county, McTeer
Bowers, George Hanna and an unidentified
white man?were wounded.
Late this evening the negro broke
through the line and made his escape.
The negro ha9 been pursued to
Georgia where he is surrounded in a

swamp by a large posse or men Bioou
hounds have been Sent and they are
probably on the scene by this time.
It is rumored that another white man

has fallen a victim to his shot gun.
Dr. S. C. Moore, of Hampton, who
was mortally wounded by Austin, has
since died in an infirmary in Colum|
bia, where be was taken for treatment,
j The Governor has offered a reward
| of $500 for the arrest of Austin, dead
[ or alive, and four townships a reward
| of the same amount, making a total
| of $3,500.
