Oa good authority it was^oarned
this morning that the prospects for
the building of an 9lectric road from
Augusts to Colombia are the brightest
since the movement was inaugurated
at a meeting of financiers and
others in thi9 city more than a year 1
/ ago. The survey has been completed
and the roate practically determined
which will pat the route tnroagn a
very prosperous section of South Caroy
lina.
The latest information concerns the
construction work and the plans for
accomplishing the designs of the promoters.
A meeting of the directors
was held in Augusta yesterday and
the entire situation gone over with
the end in view ofjstartiug the build
ing as soon as the details have been
arrangedfThe Carolina & Georgia
Railway Co. is the name under which
the railroad has been chartered and
under the authority conferred by it
the company will issue bond s amounting
to $2,000,090. The bond s will be
supplemented |bv an issue of stock
amounting to $2,000,000. This, it was
learned, is the latest development in
the financial features and this is the
phase that is rej iring the consideration
of the directors. Colombia was
represented at the Augnsta meeting

charge of the legal work in connection
with the bond issue, charter rights
and other matters that must be considered
in a plan so important as the
formation of a company to pot through
s oomplicated undertaking, such as
the building of a ne<v railroad.

the other terminus, as the proposed ?

Aiken-Augusta electric line. *
NECESSITY FOR THE ROAD. There
is abundant reason why the a
' road should prove ajpaying invest- I
mentr besides meaning mnch to the '
city by giving another competing
line.. The road would pass through
a section that is growing rapidly and
besides furnish a connection with the
Seaboard for Augusta and the lines
entering that city, This in dependent
link would make money for itself by
providing an outlet from the territory
south of Augusta. The Georgia &
Florida is anxious to get into Columbia
from Augusta and it is reasoned
that its interests would favor patronage
for the new road.
It is understood that the stockholders
of the Carolina & Georgia Co.
will meet before the end of the month
and the plans as agreed on by the directors
will be submitted for approval.?
