Brookland Bank Raises
its Capital.
The stockholders of the Brookland
Bank met today and unanimously decided
to increase the capital stock to
$30,OCO from its present capital of
$20,000. Three of its present stock- holders
pat in application for $3,600 of
new stock and there are other applications
for various amounts. The Bank
of Brookland has been prosperous for,
several years and this increase in capital
assures even greater prosperity.
The directors of the bank are J. G.
Guignard, G. A. Gaigrard, R. 8. Senn,i
E. W. Shall, F. L. Sandel, A. D. Shall,
Henry Buff, P.J. Wessinger, L.S.
Trotti.
The advisory board is: Jas. A. Summersett,
Frank W. Shealy.

Fine Mule Killed.
A fine mule belonging to a negro
answering to the name of Will Hiller
was killed in what might be termed
criminal carelessness on the part of the
driver. It appears that a cs?wd of negroes
were returning to their home on
the plantation of Mr. J. T. Kaminer
from Counts church last Sunday afternoon,
the mule became unm&nag&ble
andran-a-way. In the course of its wild
flight four buggies were smashed to
kindling wood and the mule killed.
Too mnch booze aod cocaine are said
to have been at the bottom of the
trouble.

This charming opera!ta was deii^ht
fully rendered Friday evening in ohe
Jtigh School Auditorium before a
crowded house, by a company of about
seventy-five young ladies,, boys and
children. These had been carefully
trained by the promoters, Misses May
Lois Boozer, Ruth Efird and Annie
Martha Meetze, and each performed
the part assigned with a promptness
and correctness that won for each and
every one of them rounds of applause
from the largo; andience.
I The costumes were beautiful and the
colors Harmoniously Diended witn
those of the flower sought to be represented.
The general verdict is that
it was the mo9t brilliant attraction of
the season, and resulted in $125. net
proit.

The pension list published in the
Dispatch last week contained an error
as to the amount of pension money
received by pensioners inClas9 0., No.
2, whichwe have been requested to
correct. The amount which each pensioner
in this class is given is $22:10
instead of $22:50 as it appeared. Of
conrse. those interested know that it
was a mistake.
Seeking a Pardon.

Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Shafer, of Pekin,
111., have been here making an effort
to secure a pardon for George Nichols,
the young white man who is now serving
a life sentence in the penitentiary
for participating, in the murder of Paul
Williams on the circus train of Hagen1
beck-Wallace during 1910.
