Cornell's Hen Champion.
The Cornell College of Agriculture
has the champion hen of the country
in point of egg laying. Her name is
Cornell Supreme, and she is the pride
of Prof. James Rice, of the poultry
department of the college, who has
just announced her record,

Canary Bird by Parcel Post. _
A canary bird passed through the
Leesville post office Monday by the
Parcel Post route. The bird was addressed
to a party on route 1 from here.
It was in a large cage, and the sight of
the carrier leaving the post office Monday

To Cot Baptist Hospital.

was today selected as the site for
South Carolina Baptist hospital, provided
for by the last state convention.
The hospital is to cost $200,000.

35 States Want Direct Election.
Harrisburg, Pa., April 2 ?Pennsvlvania
today joined the ranks of the
states that have ratified the proposed
amendment to tne federal constitution
providing for the direct election
of United States senators, making the
thirty-fifth to fall in line. The joint
resolution ratifying the proposed
amendment, which previously passed
the house, was passed by the senate
today nnaninfously.
The vote of only one more state i9
needed to make the amendment effective.
