Sulzer, Governor of New York,
must be a bigger man than Col*ey
Blease, Governor of South Carolina,
Sulzer issued po99i ive orders for
the removal of Dr. John W. Russell
as Superintendent of Matteawan State
hospital, who alleges that he was offered
a bribe o* $20,000 to release H
K. Thaw, and it was immediately done.
Blease asked for the removal of Dr.
J. W. Babcock, Superintendent of the
State Hospital for the Insane, by the
appointment of another in hi9 stead,
But the Senate said NO, and Dr. Babcock
still holds the fort. The difference
is that in New York they have
statesmen, while in South Carolina
we have *2x2 politicians who imagine
that their mission is to fight Blease.

his aspiration stands today he is a

ought to get the nomination of one or

TRIBUTE OF RESPECT.
Resolutions of the Joint Council of
Union Lutheran Pastorate.
Whereas, our kind Heavenly Father,
in his all wise providence, has called
from the church militantto the church
triumphant our beloved brother, J. R.
W, Sease, who, from the time of
the organization of the Union
Evangelical Lutheran Pastorate, ha9
been a faithful and efficient member
of the joint council, therefore, be it.
Resolved, 1, That we bow in humble
submission to the will of the Great
Head of the Church, who doeth all
things well. "Not our will, but thine
be done."
2, That in hi9 death the Church and
and the Joint Council have lost one of
their most zealous members aDd a wise
councilor. We will sadly miss his
cheering word9 and deeds of Christian
love; but that our loss is hi9 eternal
gain.
3, That we extend our love and
sympathy to the bereft family and
friends, who in his death have lost a
loving and devoted father, a kind and
sympathic friend, and that we follow
him as he followed Christ.
4, That these resolutions be spread
upon the record book of the Joint
Council; that a copy be sent to the
Leesville Advocate, the Lexington
Dispatch and to the Lutheran Church
Visitor for publication.
