Dear Mr. Editor: As I have just
got back from a trip to old Lexington
county, S. 0., and that is my old home
and Stare, and its people are my people
and are dear to me, I thought I
would write you a few lines and send
you that dollar to help out some. I
found the people doing well ar.d was

I like Florida and its people. Port
Tampa is a railroad town and there
are good people here from nearly every
State in the United States.
There it not much farming close
around here?ju9t a little truck farming
and a few orange groves.
Wishing good luck to the Dispatch
force, I am,
Respectfully,

Apropros of the bumper crops of
1912, Secretary Wilson, of the Department
of Agriculture, said in Washing
ton:
"I heard a sr.ory the other day about
a long-headed farmer. An auctioneer
was to auction off his fields of standing
grain, and the farmer said to him:
44 'I hope to goodness we have a
good stiff breeze the day of the auction.'
" 'A good stiff breeze? 4What use
will that be?' asked the auctioneer.
44 4You must be green, young fellow,'
said the farmer. 4Don't you know
that, when grain's waving in the I
breeze, it looks a lot thicker?you see I.
the same heads two and three times

Preparation in Advance.
Sv-me rotten manure will be needed
next spring to place in the bottom of
the flats, and probably to mix with
soil to be used for seed sowing and
transplanting. Now is the time to
look out for this supply.. Either rotten
horse manure or cow manure will
serve the purpose. If this cannot be
found a compost pile should be made
at once and turned a few times during
the winter to improve its texture.
