One of the most deplorable accidents that has happened in Lexington in years, in which two lives were nearly extinguished in the twinkle of an eye oocurred at Oaparis Stone Company's plant near town at the noon hour las t Monday. It is the rale of the company to make blasts at the noon hour and at the knooking off hoar. Theso blasts are prepared by drilling holes in the rooks and patting sticks of dynamite in them. This stick is packed down in the hole and held firmly in pltwe by a casing of sand or other material. At the time of the accident, Will Lorick, a negro, and young Lnoios Bickley a sod of our fellow townsman, J. J. Bickley was engaged in this work, the negro using a crow bar to uO the pack ing when a premature explosion occurred, seriously and perhaps fatally wounding the negro and seriously in juring young Bickley. It is reported that Will Lorick, who is in a hospital in Columbia cannot survive his inie juries. Mr. Bickley was taken to the Knowl ton Infirmary in Columbia by Dr. Derrick, and Mr. Frank Shealy in the latters automobile, where an operation was performed by Dr. Derrick, the physician of the company, and Dr. Kirby. Mr. Bickley sustained terrible injuries about the face and other portions of the body. He has lost the sight of one eye and possibly that of the other, Out this cannot be determined until further developments occur. Manager Bibb did all that he could to render the suffers all possible assistance, and he together with the entire community deplor the accident. TRESPASS NOTICE.
