How To Raise Strawberries.
The following is taken from the current
issue of Farm and Fireside:
"A strong box or barrel is neededsomething
that will stand the general
conditions of the weather. Bore holes
in the bottom of the box or barrel for
drainage, and also sevaral rows cf
inch holes od the sides, holes at least
aix inches apart, and each row the
same distance, with the first and third
rows of holes directly above each
other, and so on alternately. Set the

to assist drainage.
"Soil of the same quality as that
prepared for a bed in open ground is
required, and in placing in the box it
must be sifted or sprinkled during the
whole course of the work of filling.
Fill up in this manner to the first row
of holes, and after placing a plant well
in each hole, cover up the roots of the
plant by this sprinkling process to the
next row of holes, and so od until full.
Unless this method is U9ed to put the
dirt in, the plants will be drawn out
of position when the mass settles.
Plants are, of course, placed on the
top of the barrel or box. StroDg wires
around the sides, if a box is U9ed, will
assist in keeping it together if placed

"Such a prepared bed of strawberries
will supply the wants of any ordinary
household, and more, too, if more than
one box is prepared. There are advantages,
also, in this method of raising
them: there are no weeds to keep
down, a bucket of water gently poured
on will supply all the moisture needed,
the bernes are clean and easy to pick,
and the whole batch of plants can be =
covered with little trouble if necessary
to protect from late frosts."
