It doesn't seem right that a woman
. should have two ears for hearing gossip
and only one teugue for repeating
it.
it . ' > Lexington
will continue to blossom
as the green bay tree regardless of
who is elected governor. It is time,
fc" high time, the people were forgetting
their differences, and as one great
l people join hearts and hands for the
I upbuilding of our county and State.
if The Dispatch is being commended
r on every side for its absolute fairness
r to all candidates daring the campaign.
| From the very beginning we took the
It position that, in the governor's race
for instance, both of the leading canL
didates were known to the people and i
I their records were known, and the
people 9hould have the right to say ior
themselves who they wanted to rule
over the destinies of the State. In <
' county politics, while we had our pref- J
erences of course, we took it for grant- ,
ed that the candidates were sufficiently
known to the people; and as practically
all of the candidates for the State (
senate and house stood on the same ;
platforms, there wa9 no reason why 1
we should enter into a discussion of
the issues or the peculiar fitness of the ]
several candidates, We believe in the
rule of the people, and when they ex- 1
press their choice at the ballot box, we (
i
are ever ready and willing to stand by
the nominees. <

The Palmetto National.
Attention is ealled to the published
statement of the Palmetto National
Bank in this issue. This is one of the
strongest banks in the country and
draws a large patronage from Lexing- ]
ton connty. Gn-eral Wilie Jones, j
president, is one of the safest and 1
soundest banfee-s in the State, and '
holds the cob fid . nee and esteem of all
who know b'*m. Mr. J. Pope Matth- 1
ewe, the ifthient cashier, is a financier
of national repnte. The other office: s (
fe well known business men, and the
almetto National will continue to
row as the green bay tree.
Court Next Week.
The Court of General Sessions for
Lexington county will convene on next
Monday morning with the Hon. S. W.
G. Shipp presiding. There is a large
number of prisoners in jail, besides a
heavy docket of bail cases, and it is
expected that the entire weex win
be consumed. 1
Card from Mr. W. L. Addy.
To the Voters of Lexington county:
Allow me to thank you through the
columns of The Dispatch for the confidence
you reposed in me on August
27fch, by electing me County Commissioner
I 9hall ever strive to do my
whole duty, at all times, and will do
all thai I can for the upbuilding of
Lexington county.
Yours truly, W. L. ADDY.

The Face With a Steady
Shine.
Did you ever in yonr going
Meet a face with a steady shine?
One you could not say was handsome,
Net a single feature fine,
But a face that held you strongly
With a look that thrilled like wine,
Yet recalled an autumn landscape,
With its rich, rare, steady shine?
When you looked again, hair parted
You found from a forehead square,
But you did not mind the squareness
Nor the tawny hue of hair.
And the nose was slightly tilted,
And a trifle out of line,
But you did not care a farthing,
For there was the steady shine.
And your thoughts went back to
mother,
And the prayer beside her knee,
And you wondered you'd forgotten
The man you meant to be.
And your heart beat quick and tender,
And your eyes were wet with dew? ,
All because in a morning's going
That one face had come to view.
