To the Democratic Voters of Lexington County: Owing to the fact that I will not be able to get around to see you before the second election, I take this method of giving you my reasons why I should be re-elected to the office of County Superintendent of Education: Fir9t: I have made more improvements in th9 County than any other man who has held the office When I went in the office the educational affairs of the county were at a standstill and there were many school houses to be built and laws to be complied with. Second: In the towns of the county there have been built many magnificent school buildings, some among the best in the State; for example, Lexington, Leesville, Batesburg, Brookland and Chapin, these buildings costing anywhere from ten to fifteen thousand dollars Also at Gilbert, through my efforts, they have erected a $1,200.00 building and voted a special levy of two mills. Third: In the rural districts the county has made wonderful improvements along educational lines; for example, in Cedar Grove School District No. 03, we have built a fine modern school building, in Hulon School District No. 19, we have built a fine modern School building, in Pond Branch School District No. 13, we have built a fine school builcing, in Calvary School District No. 42, we have built a fine school, and in other districts we have made other improvements and repairs. Fourth: Since I have been in office I have gotten high school aid for the Lexington school aud also brought the opposing factions together at Leeaville and also kept the books in my office in fine shape and they have been favorably passed upon by the special committee of the grand jury. I have also filed my annual report with the Clerk of Court, the same haying been duly passed upon by the grand jury as the law provides; something that my predecessors failed to do. Fifth: During last scholastic year the county spent over $32,000 for improvements alone and in all the county spent $67,978 41. Also during last school year the county received from the State $< ,997.00 for high schools and $1,375.00 for weak schools. Sixth: I have successfully carried out the law regulating Building Fund Act, the Extension Act and the High School Act. Seventh: I know the school law, won all matters that went before the State board and also all matters that were taken up in the courts. Eighth: If I am not re-elected there will be a renewal of troubles relative to the appointment of trustees in the various districts of the county. sinr.fi T have been in office I have vis ited more schools in the county than any other superintendent in a like period; and would have visited all the schools last winter hid it not been for the bad weather. Ninth: My opponent is a young man 22 years of age and has neyer had any experience in the office which I now hold. Your continued suffrage for another term will be highly appreciated by me.
