Gasoline Pulls the Plow;
Horses Quit Wheat Fields
Topeka, Kan.?Big steam an 1 gasoline
traction engines are superseding
horses and mules in plowing the great
wheat fields of Kansas. One of the
Kansas State officials went from
Syraouse on the Santa Fe to Topeka
recently. He traveled all day and
on that trip counted sixty-one traction
engines at work plowing.
The traction engines as plow power
came to Kansas less than three years
ago and this year they are more extensively
used than ever before. One
wholesale distributing house in Topeke
has sold twenty tractors. All were
shipped to agents in the central and
western parts of the state on orders
from farmers.
Within the last week the country
newspapers of central Kansas reported
the sale nineteen tractors for plowing
and reportei twenty-seven farmers
who would start their tractors at
once.
