' On July 2nd I boarded the train at
Wildwood for Swansea, arriving there'
al- at 8 o'clock Wednesday morning, and
was met at the depot by A. F. Smith,
and on Jnly 4 at the home of Mr.
Smith the children of the late John J.
Smith had a general reunion. Of the
nd eleven living children ten were present.
On July 16, onr time being up, we
boarded the early morning train for
home, arriving at Wildwood at 2:80
in the afternoon.
Things seemed wrong to me. The
farmers down here are through pulling
? fodder, while the farmers there '
have not finished laying by. We certainly
have fine corn crops down here
this year; also plenty of pinders to
q fatten hogs. The corn will be gathered
bj the last of August, and the
~~ farmers are preparing for a big cabJh"
bage crop.
' The weather has been very hot
down here.

The Picnic Lunch-Basket
Fannie Merritfc Farmer, cookery editor
of the Woman's Home Companion,
writes about "The Picnic LunchBasket"
in the August number of that
periodical. She gives sixteen recipes
for good things to prepare for picnics,
four of which follow:
"Stuffed Eggs?-Cut four hard-boiled
eggs in halves crosswise, remove yolks,
and mash; then add two tablespoonfuls
of grated cheese, one teaspoonful
of vinegar, one-half teaspoonful of
salt, one-fourth teaspoonful of mustard,
and a few grains of cayenne. Add
melted butter until mixture is of the
right consistency to spread. Make in
balls the size of original yolks, and
refill whites. Finely chopped ham
may be used instead of cheese; melted
butter instead of vinegar.
"Fruit Punch?Mix one cupful of
lemon-juice, one cnprnl or orange-]nice,
and one cupful of fresh pineapplejuioe.
Add two cupfula of fine granulated
sugar, cover, and let stand until
sugar has dissolved. Dilute with water
to suit taste.
"Chicken Mayonnaise Sandwiches?
Chop cold boiled fowl, and moisten
with mayonnaise dressing. Spread
mixture between thin slices of buttered
bread, remove crusts, and cut in
halves diagonally, thus making trian- ;
gles. Wrap in paraffin paper.
"Saratoga Chip9?Slice thin, into a
bowl of cold water, medium-9ized potatoes.
Let stand one and one-half hours,
changing water twice. Drain, plunge
into boiling water, and let boil one
minute. Again drain, and plunge into
cold water. Dry between towel9. Fry
in hot fat until browned, keeping in
motion with a skimmer. Remove to
drippingpan lined with brown paper;
sprinkle with salt,''

Not counting the three negroes who
were lynched at Olar, Bamberg county,
a few weeks ago, there have been
nine homicide in that section since the
Christmas holidays. Of the victims
three were white and six negroes.

Jas. G. Seigler, the wealthy man of
Aiken who shot and killed Policeman
Patterson, and was sentenced to seven
