Cromer performing the fcneral services. Mr. Poath was about 85 years old, and leaves two sons?Martin aad Andrew Poath?his wife having died some years ago. In the death of Mr. Poath the community has lost a good citizen. Anderson, July 27.?Mistaking that part of tne initiation where firearms are flourished and blank cartridges are exploded as meaning to do him bodily harm, Forman Bagwell, aged 21, a candidate being initiated into the mysteries of the Woodmen of the World, rushed from the 1 xige room and snatched his pistol from his coat hanging in the ante room, hurried hack into the lodge room and fired Jihree shots in rapid succession at Milton Taylor, aged 26, who was leading the degree team in the initiation. ThA firHfc shot hit Taylor in the abdo men, fearfully tearing the intestines. The bullet hid itself in the spinal column. The second bullet hit Taylor on the right hip and buried itself in the hip bone. The last shot struck Taylor on the back of the neck and glanced off. This occurred in the Friendship Lodge room, three miles northeast of Honea Path last night. To-day Tay-1 lor was brought to the Anderson Hos- i pital and Dr. Sanders, the attending j physician, says tonight that his condition is extremely critical and that he fears peritonitis will set in. Taylor was able to tell of the shooting todav after he came from under the influence of an anaesthetic. He says that he and Bagwell were warm friends; that Bagwell became excited md in the heat of excitement lost his head and rushed for his pistol, evidently thinking that he (Taylor) meant to do him serious bodily harm. Bagwell is a clerk in a store at Honea Path and was at his post today. He was married about two months ago. Taylor's father said today that prosecution of Bagwell depended on whether or not his son survived the wounds. It is not likely that he will survive. Died Of WOUndSAnderson, July 29.?Milton Taylor, who was shot Friday night by Furman Bagwell, while initiating the latter into the Woodmen of the World died today. Bagwell has not been arrested and Taylor's father said he did not care to prosecute. An Economical Icing, This is a famous French recipe; the icing is lik6 the filling of chocolatecreams, and will keep indefinitely; a quantity, it is claimed, can be made i and put away in covered jars, to be used when wanted. Boil without stirring one cupful of sugar, one-third cupful of water and one-eighth teaspoonful of cream tartar. When it I forms a soft disc when dropped in cold water it is done. Let stand without stirring until lukewarm, then add any flavoring liked and beat until smooth and creamy. If cocked too long, it will become grainy; too long stirring j ha9 the same effect, and only experi- J ence and judgment will teach the right j time for cooking. For caramel icing, j use one-fourth cup of water to one i cupful of brown sugar. t ryler Hill Shot While Resisting Arrest. Hill, who was j irinking heavily, had previously cut Boyse Clay, another negro, inflicting i number of gashes, two of which vere in the chest. The negro made a aumber of threats and as lie was about bo draw a pistol, as the officer believed, Policeman Taylor drew his iwn weapon and fired twice, the first 9hot going wild. Hili will recover. When sober he is quiet and peaceable, but when under the influence of liquor he is just the opposite. Go To Niagara Falls.
