Ten Things To Do In July.
1. Bemember when you lay-by the
?ropi to cultivate shallow and leave
the land level?don't cot the roots or
make ditches.
2. Plant pea9 in the corn as you
finish it, and plant all land9 not otherwise
employed to some manure or
feed crop.
8. Build a silo?that is, if you have
made any provision to fill it. Clean
*p and patch about the barn.
4. Get all hay crops under shelter
r in good stacks. Take care of the
straw after threshing. Begin making
arrangements to care for the corn
without the useless labor of fodder
ynlling.
6. Keep on planting in the garden
?and don't forget a patch of late
roasting-ears and a patch of popcorn.
6. Have a consultation with the lady
of the houss and see that the
aoraens are all right, that she has a
ireless cooker and that she can get
water without carrying it
7. If a farmer's institute is held in
jour neighborhood, or if there is a
rdund-np institute in your State, arrange
to attend.
8. Keep close watch on all the live
lock; see that the horses are thrifty,

9. -Arrange for a vacation?if nothing
more than a day's outing or a picnic
occasionally through the summer.
10. Keep cool politically as well as
physically?above all, don't get excited
about the President and let your
local offices be filled with incompetent
men.?Progressive Farmer.
In these days of high cost Qf living,
a medicine that gets a man up out of
bed and able to work in a few days is
a valuable and welcome remedy. John
Heath, Michigan Bar, Cal., had kidney
and bladder trouble, wa9 confined to
his bed, unable to turn without help.
"I commenced U9ing Foley Kidney
Pills and can truly say I was relieved
at once.'' His example is worth following.

Woman a Live Broker.
One of the most active members of
the brokerage division of the cottonseed
product trade is Miss Kathryn
Ballon, of Memphis, Tenn., who is believed
to be the only woman broker
in the business, says an exchange.
Miss Ballou has made a really remarkable
success ever since she started
in to sell cottonseed products, and
her business is still growing. Along
in July, 1910, Miss Ballou made a sale
of 92 tanks of crude oil for future delivery,
which is believed to have been
the largest sale known in the history
of the cottonseed oil trade, and this
was an advertisement which spread
her fame far and wide.
Miss Ballou first went into the business
as an employee in the office of a
broker in Memphis. But after a year
there she started out for herself, on a
small scale at first. Her business increased
to such an extent, however,
that she now has two large offices in
the Exchange building and a large and
competent office force to take care of
her orders.

Shooting Over Politics.
At Kingstree W. B. Stanton was
shot by J. E. Pearce the ball striking
him in the left side and ranging down
into the hip joint. The men are first
cousins and both are farmers of good
reputation in t at county. It seems
that both parties had been together
and that the shooting grew out of
what at first was good natured joking
and guying eachother, as to political
views The State campaign meeting
was attended with enthusiasm and
feeling waxed warm. Both men have
families and the affair is much regretted.
What Makes A Woman?
One hundred and twenty pounds, more
or less, of bone and muscle don't make
a woman. Its a good foundation. Put
into it health and strength and she
may rule a kingdom. But that's just
what Electric Bitters ghe her. Thousands
bless them for overcoming fainting
.nd dizzy spells and for dispelling
weakness, nervousness, backache and
tired, listless, worn out feeling. "Electric
Bitters have done me a world of
good," writes* Eliza Pool, D ^pew,
Okla., "and I thank you, with all my
heart, for making such a good medicine."

A Patriotic Toast.
At a Fourth of July dinner in Shanghai,
the English consul toasted the
British flag. He said:
"Here is to the Union Jack, the flag
of flags, the flag that has floated in every
land on every sea for a thousand
years, the flag 011 which the sun never
sets."
It was strong sentiment, and the |
Americans were a little overawed, until
Eli Perkins was called to toast the
Stars and Stripes.
Looking into the proud faces of the
Englishmen, he said:
''Here is to the Stars and Stripes of
the new republic. When the setting
sun lights up her stars in Alaska, the
rising sun salutes her on the rockbound
coast of Maine. It is the flag ,
of liberty, never lowered to any foe, |
and the only flag that whipped the j
flag on which the sun never sets."
